Employ Florida Banner Center for Homeland Security and Defense
The Employ Florida Banner Center for Homeland Security and Defense is based at Indian River State College. It serves as a go-to resource center for education, training and information on homeland security, an emerging industry that has become increasingly prominent since September 11, 2001. The center focuses on curriculum development and training for entry-level and experienced law enforcement, fire, public safety and defense-related workers.
Among the Banner Center’s critical work to date has been a statewide needs assessment that identifies gaps in training related to awareness, preparedness and prevention of terrorist acts. The Banner center also has developed and provided terrorism prevention training to companies such as Florida Power and Light and to governmental agencies such as the Florida Department of Transportation.
*This Banner Center is undergoing a transition. Workforce Florida funding has phased out.
